Ireland’s bilingual city on Winning Streak

Ireland’s Bilingual City will feature on Winning Streak this Saturday at 8.30 pm on RTÉ 1. Tune in to see how businesses in Galway City are using the Irish language to their advantage to promote and gain new business. As part of our 30th birthday celebrations, Gaillimh le Gaeilge welcomed Micheal Sweeney and his team from the National Lottery/RTÉ to the presentation of Gradam Sheosaimh Uí Ógartaigh, Galway’s bilingual business award, earlier this year.

Táimid fíorbhuíoch don Chrannchur Náisiúnta a thugann maoiniú dúinn tríd an Roinn Cultúir, Oidhreachta agus Gaeltachta.

Gaillimh le Gaeilge are already looking forward to another exciting and productive year in 2018. Cathaoirleach Ghaillimh le Gaeilge, Bernadette Mullarkey, welcomed Galway City Council’s announcement earlier this week that they will provide funding of €50,000 to the organisation for next year.

“The support of Galway City Council and organisations such as the Galway Chamber are vital to Gaillimh le Gaeilge and to the work that we do in the city. This ongoing support allows us to concentrate on keeping Galway at the forefront as a unique, cultural destination.”

Preparations are already underway for Gradam 2018 which will be launched in January 2018 and tenders are currently being sought for a suitable consultant to prepare an Irish Language Plan for Galway City. A new steering group, Coiste Stiúrtha Pleanála Teanga Gaillimh (CSPT Gaillimh), was jointly established by Galway City Council and Gaillimh le Gaeilge earlier this year to support, guide and oversee the progress and the delivery of an Irish Language Plan for Galway City.
