Bilingual Status for Galway City

Newly elected Mayor of the City of Galway, Cllr. Frank Fahy reiterated his support for Bilingual status for Galway and said this recognition of Galway as a bilingual city would further strengthen Galway’s bid for the status of European Capital of Culture 2020.

Iggy O’Muircheartaigh, Cathaoirleach, Gaillimh le Gaeilge welcomed the Mayor’s announcement and with Gaillimh le Gaeilge celebrating 30 years in business in 2016, he sees the awarding of bilingual status to Galway as a “fitting tribute to the Irish language, to its position and role in the city”.

Cathaoirleach Ghaillimh le Gaeilge ag cur fáilte roimh Barry O’ Sullivan, Príomhfheidhmeannach Altocloud chuig Coiste Stiúrtha Ghaillimh le Gaeilge ag an bhFulacht Fia le déanaí.

Gaillimh le Gaeilge are delighted to introduce their two new board members to join Coiste Stiúrtha Ghaillimh le Gaeilge.They are; Barry O’Sullivan CEO of Altocloud, and Isbéal Nic Aoidh, Coláiste Paitríoch Naomh Sheosaimh (The Bish).

Barry O’Sullivan is renowned both nationally and internationally within the business and technology sectors. He also featured as a ‘Dragon’ on the RTE Dragons’ Den series, where he invested in promising business ventures. His vast practical experience will further assist the development and progression of Gaillimh le Gaeilge.

Isbéal Nic Aoidh has practical and relevant expertise in both Irish language and sporting affairs. Her experience will help Gaillimh le Gaeilge to forge and strengthen their links with schools as well as with sporting organisations in Galway city.

Gaeilge À La Carte—Biachláir le Blaiseadh Gaeilge!

We are always on the look out for restaurants and hotels in Galway City who would like to introduce some Irish on their menus. Galway city boasts a wide range of restaurants and hotels that have incorporated the language into their restaurants. The list of these restaurants are available here.GALC_web_DEIS

Gaillimh le Gaeilge provides a free translation service as well as practical advise to restaurants on possible layouts and the amount of Irish suitable for their menus. We also host one of our monthly business lunches in the restaurants listed.  These Lónta Gnó are very successful with up to 30 people attending each lunch.
